Case Study—Nationally Ranked 12 Year Old Serve Technique

Case study—Serve of top 100 US 12 and under girl.

Here is a great kid from Midwest who visits me in NYC and comes to my summer camp in Vermont.

Very hard worker. About 100 US nationally with awesome backhand and great fighting spirit.

However, she has struggled mightily with serve technical elements.

We are working on better power position. Leg drive. Rhythm of the arms. And learning spin.

For her ranking a competitive level, I believe her serve is very underdeveloped.

Will post updates and changes as we work on them.

Another issue is that her coaching team back home wants her to consistently run around her backhand and attack with forehand. But her backhand is her best and favorite shot!

I think it’s a mistake to run around your backhand if it’s a great weapon.

Please share your thoughts.
