All Coaches on the Journey Deserve Credit

I am a junior developer and I usually pass my players along when they reach a high national rank. Sometimes they will attend an academy. That’s okay with me. Academies have an expertise in taking a player from good national junior to top college or pro player.

My point is that coaches or academies who focus on transitional pros, let’s say ages 15 and up for boys or younger for girls, are still developing those players. It’s just a different kind of development.

It’s not so much building strokes anymore. It’s about motivation and inspiration, tactics, tournament planning, psychology and mental, even business management and scheduling. That’s still development in my opinion.

The junior development coach should get credit.

The transitional pro coach should get credit.

Rarely does one coach take a player from scratch to the pros.

It’s usually a team effort and each coach along the journey deserves credit.
