Groundstroke Technique Myth #4

Young children should start out learning groundstrokes in stationary fashion—without movement—so it’s easier for them to learn the swing technique.

Movement and footwork can be integrated later on as they progress.

Truth:

Little kids can and should be taught movement, footwork, and reading with the eyes from day one—all integrated simultaneously with swing mechanics.

Training the eyes, feet, and hands AT THE SAME TIME is a faster and more efficient way to develop technique.

All ROG U10 teaching curriculums and methods should emphasize the importance of integrating reading, footwork, and movement—especially lateral movement— in stroke production training.
