How To Keep A Great Tennis Coach For Your Kid: Top 10 Rules

Amazing coaches are rare. If you are lucky enough to find a great coach for your kid, you don’t want to lose him or her!

Follow these guidelines to keep your great coach happy, so he doesn’t fire you and find another client who does follow these rules:

1. Pay them well. Don’t haggle too much on price. Be fair and generous. Bonuses are nice. If you miss a lesson from time to time, pay the coach anyway. Don’t pay late or make the coach track you down for payment.

2. Value their time. See Number 1. Pay them for extended meetings and coming to tournaments. Treat them like a professional whose time is important.

3. Tell them from time to time, “Thanks for your hard work” or “We are really grateful for your coaching.”

4. Show Engagement. Take notes and ask questions. Video important concepts.

5. Encourage your child to practice what the coach has been working on. Coaches love to see that a student has been practicing during the interim between lessons.

6. Show up early to lessons. Leave late.

7. Demand that your child be respectful and disciplined.

8. Ensure that your child appreciates the value of a lesson and never squanders the time.

9. Teach your child responsibility. Blame your kid first before blaming the coach.

10. Have regular meetings with your coach to set goals and plan the future.
