Coaches and players should be cautious when copying what Fed, Djokovic, Thiem and others do when warming up or hitting lightly. They often catch the racquet and finish exaggeratedly high on the forehand.
However, when they really start to hit hard or with more spin, the finishes get lower and more to the side of shoulder.
I believe we should teach the lower versions.
Many coaches teach the high finish to all young kids.
I disagree and think this hinders the fluidity and elasticity of the stroke.
I see armies of stiff forehands coming out of Red, Orange, Green U10 programs.
Let’s teach young children modern technique with fluidity, whip, and lower finishes than in the past.
