Thoughts About Running Around The Backhand

I believe that if a player has a gifted backhand, we don’t need to force the typical runaround inside out inside in forehand style.

I look for the player’s gift and their favorite shot.

If it’s the backhand, I will encourage him or her to attack and return with that weapon, and we try to set up patterns to get that weapon to dominate.

I love the forehand and it’s the Spanish Way to run around the backhand to hit heavy forehands, but I think it’s a common mistake to force this pattern of play on girls who might be better off with backhand patterns.

Many girls prefer their two handed backhand, even at the pro level. It’s more rare in the men’s game.
