Family Portrait: Sky’s Wrestling Match
Chris’s daughter Sky, 12, at a local wrestling tournament. Sky has been working very hard on her skills and is very brave to get on the mat weekly to fight the boys! By the way, wrestling is a great cross-training sport for tennis and makes kids tougher. Also, coaching is allowed and encouraged. Very different from a tennis tournament. I think wrestling has it right. Allowing coaching is better and certainly doesn’t make the kids less tough or resourceful.
Also, every match has a referee and scorekeeper. None of this BS where the kids umpire their own matches and keep their own score. Junior tennis should never allow kids to referee and keep score themselves. It’s a disaster and invites gamesmanship and cheating.
