The Tennis Wisdom of Legendary Spanish Coach Pato Alvarez

“For the returner, when his or her opponent comes to net, the first priority is to make the net player hit another volley.  Only the greatest champions can play risky shots constantly and get success.  Normally it’s always better to hit passing shots changing direction:  if the opponent comes to net with a backhand, you should hit to his or her forehand volley or vice versa.”

William Pato Alvarez is famous for being one of the only coaches in the world to simultaneously coach 4 players in the top 40 ATP rankings.  He is a legend in Spain and developed many professional players such as Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal, who went on to start the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona.
